VA Medical Center To Host Quarterly Town Hall Meetings

On Saturday, September 10, the Canandaigua VA Medical Center will host a Quarterly Town Hall Meeting. This event will take place at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center located at 400 Fort Hill Avenue, Canandaigua, NY 14424 in building #5 starting at 10:00 a.m.

On Wednesday, September 14, Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic will host a Quarterly Town Hall Meeting. This event will take place at the Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic located at 465 Westfall road, Rochester, NY 14620 starting at 6:30 p.m.

These Town Hall meetings will provide the opportunity for feedback from Veterans, family members, congressional stakeholders, Veteran service organizations, non-governmental organizations and other community partners.

Michael J. Swartz, Interim Medical Center Director, will provide updates at the meetings regarding the Canandaigua VAMC and the Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic.

Exciting and Interesting Volunteering Opportunities Available

How about stepping outside your circle of comfort for a little while?  This September, the Post is “having” a food booth at this year’s Indy Car Grand Prix at Watkins glen.  From Thursday, September 1st thru Sunday, September 4, our Post will be manning a food booth at the world famous race course just south of us, in Watkins Glen.  Volunteers are needed to man the shifts.  It will be busy but it will be exciting and fun!!  There is an informational meeting at the Post on Tuesday, August 9th at 7:00 pm for anyone interested.  Even if you just want to find out what the jobs will be, show up.

Some members from the Post are going to Watkins Glen on August 4th to return on the 8th to get a little “taste” of what it takes to run a food booth during a NASCAR race. They will share their experiences at the meeting on the 8th.  Come and hear what they have to share.

Meanwhile, the Post has two booths at the Wayne County Fair again this year.  the Fair runs from August 15th through the 20th.  Sign up to help in commercial building #1.

Additionally, we are already signing up volunteers for the Legion’s food booth for our annual Canaltown Days Festival, September 17th.  Sign up for the hours and jobs you can work.  All help is welcome.

2nd Annual Golf Tourney Registration Forms Available

Chairman Bill Campbell has sent out the information flyers for the upcoming 2nd Annual James R. Hickey Post #120 Golf Tourney.  The August 20th event will again be hosted at the  Winged Pheasant Golf Course.   Get your team together now.  Remember the money raised goes for scholarships, youth and community programs.  If you want to play, sponsor a hole or help as a vendor with prizes, information is available at the Post, on line and from Bill Campbell.  A great day of golf provides a great opportunity to support the community and youth activities and scholarships from the American Legion Post.

Stop by the post or call (315-597-2412) to get a copy of the registration form for your team.  Spread the word with friends and vendors who wish to support this worthy cause.  We will see you there on August 20th for the 9:00 am shotgun start.

 

 

 

SCAM ALERT FOR VETERANS

Patrick Skelly, Veteran Service Officer with Wayne County Veterans has forwarded the following message to area veterans because he has received calls from two Wayne county Veterans about possible scams.  First, the call was from some one claiming to be a VA Employee and was requesting to update a vet’s records by getting a copy of the dd214 and financial statement.  DON’T GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION ON THE PHONE.  Second, he received a call from some one claiming to be a representative of the Vet’s NetWork asking for information.  This veteran has given his information to Kern’s at the Patriot Guard -DON’T GIVE DONATIONS TO UNKNOWN ENTITIES.

2nd Annual Post Golf Tournament Planning Under-way!

Time to start practicing and getting the date on your calendar.  The 2nd Annual James R. Hickey Post #120 Golf Tournament is being planned for August 20th.  Get your teams ready for the friendly competition that raises funding for Post Sponsored projects.  Sponsors, Teams, Hole Sponsors and Prizes are always welcome.  Come and join us at the beautiful (but challenging) Winged Pheasant Golf Club in neighboring Shortsville.

May 8th – Mother’s Day Chicken BBQ To Start Summer Season

The annual Mother’s Day Chicken BBQ (May 8th this year) will be the start of another summer season of activities at Palmyra’s James R. Hickey Post #120 of the American Legion.  This annual event is hosted by the Post with Double D Catering providing all the delicious food.  We sell the tickets, they cook the chicken and take care of the rest.   Get your tickets for your chicken dinners early so you are not left hungry on that Sunday afternoon.  Again, it will be simple…drive through only.  Call the Post at (315) 597-2412 after 1:00 daily starting April 22nd and pre-order your tickets.  Tickets will be available on Mother’s Day as well but if you’re late, they may be sold out.  Chicken will be available starting @noon until sold out (which doesn’t take long because of the delicious aroma that fills the neighborhood).
