New Year’s Eve Gala Prime Rib Dinner

Amber Jenkins, Post Manager, announced that John Burnette will again cater the New Year’s Eve Prime Rib Dinner. Amber is very enthusiastic when talking about the menu. Call her (315) 597-2412 to reserve your seat(s) for this event and hear her enthusiasm when she explains what will be available. The price this year is $30.00 per person with only one sitting available at 5:30 pm.

Auxiliary Announces Needs

Dorothy Sobus, Auxiliary President, has put out the call for help with some upcoming events being sponsored in part (or in all ) by the Auxiliary of the James R. Hickey Post # 120. Donations are needed for the “Halloween Warm-Up” event for the afternoon/evening of October 31st. Cider, Donuts and Candy donations should be dropped of by Friday, Oct. 28th if possible. Supervision for the event is always welcome.
Volunteers to help wrap Christmas Gifts at the VA will be needed for Sunday and Monday, November 20 and 21. If you can share an hour or two helping wrap Christmas Gifts, contact either Dorothy or the VA.
Remember Veterans’ Day and the dinner sponsored by the Auxiliary. Ask how you can help with this wonderful tradition. And, finally, don’t forget the raffle on November 19th. Ask Dorothy how you can help.

The Halloween Warm-Up scheduled for October 31st needs donations of candy, cider and donuts by Friday, October 28th. Help in supervision for the children is also needed for the event itself.
If you would like to volunteer for the VA to assist in wrapping Christmas presents, there are times available on both Sunday, November 20th and Monday, November 21st to help. Sunday’s hours are from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.. Monday’s hours are from 9:30 a.m until done. If you wish to volunteer, contact either the VA or Dorothy for more information.
Help will be needed on November 19th for the Auxiliary and S.A.L. raffles. Sandwiches, stuff and physical help are each needed.
Finally, don’t forget the Veterans’ Dinner at the Post on Saturday, November 12th. All kinds of help is needed. Please see Dorothy for more information about how you can help.

Flu Shots Available for Veterans and their Families October 14th

James R. Hickey Post #120, Palmyra, NY is hosting another “free” flu shot offering on Friday, October 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.. All you need is your medical/health plan coverage card or Medicare care and a place to inject. “Pneumonia” and “Shingles” shots are available but you need to sign up by October 8th to ensure availability. High dose flu shots are available for those who are considered “seniors”. Any questions, contact the Post (315-597-2412). The sign up sheet with available time slots for the inoculation is on the wall next to the bar area for easy access to sign up. This opportunity is available to ALL VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

VA Medical Center To Host Quarterly Town Hall Meetings

On Saturday, September 10, the Canandaigua VA Medical Center will host a Quarterly Town Hall Meeting. This event will take place at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center located at 400 Fort Hill Avenue, Canandaigua, NY 14424 in building #5 starting at 10:00 a.m.

On Wednesday, September 14, Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic will host a Quarterly Town Hall Meeting. This event will take place at the Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic located at 465 Westfall road, Rochester, NY 14620 starting at 6:30 p.m.

These Town Hall meetings will provide the opportunity for feedback from Veterans, family members, congressional stakeholders, Veteran service organizations, non-governmental organizations and other community partners.

Michael J. Swartz, Interim Medical Center Director, will provide updates at the meetings regarding the Canandaigua VAMC and the Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic.
