The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA), James R. Hickey Unit 120 of Palmyra, NY has been awarded a grant of $1,000 to conduct September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance activities. The projects will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Grant recipients must provide an additional $250 in cash or in-kind donations, making the project total $1,250. Funding for this very limited ALA grant program is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
Our Unit has decided to improve the efficiencies of our American Legion Post Home (community facility improvement) by replacing current lighting with LED, installing water saver toilets, and installing programmable thermostats. We will be cleaning the kitchens, as well as stripping & waxing floors in the kitchens and dining hall making them more desirable for community events.
A special service will be held at 1:00pm at the American Legion to commemorate and remember those who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and to honor the veterans and military personnel who rose in service to protect our freedoms. Everyone in the community is invited and welcome to come to participate in our work project (8:00am – 3:00pm) and/or our remembrance service (1:00pm).
