Members of the James R. Hickey American Legion Post #120, received a letter in the mail this week inviting them to the Pal-Mac Intermediate School for a special event to honor them for their service. The School, located at 4 West Street in Macedon, is hosting a breakfast and program for Veterans on Friday, November 6th, 2015 from 8:00am – 9:30 am. Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria from 8:00-8:30 am. This has become an annual event as the Faculty, Staff and Students of the school show their appreciation for the service and dedication of the Veterans to America.
All veterans are welcome. Please call the Post (315) 597-2412 between 1:00 pm and 8:00 pm before November 2 to RSVP.
Operation Recognition allows certain veterans to earn high school diplomas if they left school without graduating. Section 305 of the NYS Education Law created Operation Recognition to recognize the dedication and sacrifice of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans who left school before graduation by awarding them a high school diploma.
To be eligible, a Veteran must meet the following requirements:
1. Be a New York State resident
2. Engaged in active duty service for least one day during one of the following wartime periods:
a. World War II (Dec. 7, 1941-Dec. 31, 1946
b. Korea: June 27, 1950-January 31, 1955
c. Vietnam: May 1, 1961 – April 30, 1975
3. Received a satisfactory discharge from military service.

Bishop Fulton Sheen’s Ecumenical Housing Foundation, Inc., has funding available for home repair accessibility modifications. There are two (2) different programs currently available, one specifically designed for veterans with disabilities (both service related and non-service related disabilities) and the other for single-family owner-occupied households with a person with disabilities in residence.
There are eligibility requirements for these programs so you are asked to contact them directly at (585) 657-4114 to obtain specific details.
