Post Honor Guard Wins First Place

The James R. Hickey Post #120 Honor Guard/Color Guard won 1st Place in the Military Honor Guard Division at the recent Canal Town Days Celebration.  When a picture of the entire Honor Guard is available, we will publish it.  Seen below is the 1st Place Trophy after it was presented.  Stop by the Post and check it out for yourself.

Final Honorings

Lloyd Morse was laid to rest at Sampson in May.  His final service was attended by men from the Palmyra American Legion Honor Guard.  Thank you to Lloyd for his service to our country and Thank You to the men and women of the Palmyra American Legion Honor Guard for remembering the value of that service.

Furgeson, Lt. Col. (Retired)
Palmyra: Tom passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at age 77. He was predeceased by his mother, Geraldine Furgeson; father, Charles (Carrie) Furgeson. Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara Furgeson; children, Timothy Furgeson, Leslie (Tom) Hickey, Tom (Julie) Furgeson, Chris (Kyra) Rose and Jennifer (Brian) Sylvester; grandchildren, Ryan and Derrick Hickey, Derek and Paige Piccola, Charles and Lucinda Furgeson, Kali, Collin and Stephan Rose and Carson Sylvester; great grandson, Brayden.
Tom proudly served his country as a career decorated soldier in the United States Army. He achieved rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served in Airborne, Ranger and Green Beret Units. Tom was awarded many military decorations, which included a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action, The Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, a Bronze Star with five oak leaf clusters for Valor, and the Purple Heart with one oak leaf cluster for Wounds Received. After Tom’s retirement from the U.S. Army, he remained involved with many organizations in Palmyra, including, Dollars for Scholars, Red Cross, Palmyra VFW and Palmyra American Legion – James R. Hickey Post #120. Tom was an active member of Holy Cross Anglican Church in Webster, NY.
Friends are invited to join the family for Tom’s calling hours on Monday (September 14) from 4-8 PM at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 123 East Jackson St., Palmyra, NY 14522. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday (September 15) at 10 AM at Zion Episcopal Church, 120 East Main St., Palmyra, NY 14522. Interment will take place in Palmyra Village Cemetery. Contributions in Tom’s name may be directed to Palmyra Community Center, 424 Stafford St., Palmyra, NY 14522 or Dollars for Scholars, Palmyra-Macedon School District, 151 Hyde Pkwy., Palmyra, NY 14522.
