Palmyra Village Board Honors Auxiliary President

On Monday evening, January 26, the Palmyra Village Board honored James R. Hickey Post #120’s Auxiliary President, Kathleen York, for her being chosen as the American Legion’s Department of New York’s Woman of the Year.  Kathleen’s achievements were highlighted in the monthly Post publication “The Vet”.  Kathleen was pleased with the recognition but confessed that she didn’t think she did any more than the other members of her organization.

Post Auxiliary President to be Honored by Village Board January 26th

Palmyra Village official, David Husk, contacted the Palmyra American Legion Post to share that the Village of Palmyra, NY, is going to honor Post Auxiliary President, Kathleen York, on Monday evening January 26, at 7:00 pm at the Village Offices.  Ms. York is being honored by the Village for her being chosen the “Unit Member of the Year and Department of New York, Woman of the year.”  Out of 540 Auxiliary units in Mew York State, Kathleen was chosen as the Department of New York, Woman of the Year.

Kathleen York’s involvement  in the American Legion in our community includes many leadership opportunities, spanning a wide spectrum of activities.  These activities include, but are not limited to, an involvement in a multitude of Children and Youth Programs, assisting in the annual poppy distributions and waiting on tables at the annual Veterans’ Dinner.  She continues to extend herself  by organizing back-pack donations for kids and serving on the Girl’s State selection committee. Kathleen is also involved in providing hospitality after funerals for deceased Legionnaires and Auxiliary members.  Add to all these, her leadership in the monthly dinners sponsored by the Post and you have an example of a tireless worker who serves as an inspiration to everyone as she works for the Veterans, our active duty military, their families and, for our community.

Mark your calendar to be at the Palmyra Village Hall on Monday, January 26, at 7:00 pm to witness the honors deservedly presented to Kathleen York.

TOYS FOR PAL-MAC TOTS A SUCCESS

Amber Jenkins, Post Manager, reported at the January 5th Corporation Meeting that the Wine and Cheese Tasting Party she organized to raise money for the Post’s “Toys for Pal-Mac Tots” program raised over $1,800.00.  Because of her efforts and those of all her “elves”, the program was able to provide 119 kids in the Pal-Mac District with a little “Merrier” Christmas.  She was the first to give the thanks to the community and individual sponsors who came forward to support this annual event.  Also, thanks to those who attended the event to sample the wines and cheeses. It would be impossible to personally thank those whose donations of toys as well as funding, went into supporting all the kids.  Amber had made two presentations to the Pal-Mac Board of Education to gain their support for this event.

Another positive example of how the James R. Hickey Post #120 (aka Palmyra American Legion) is actively involved in supporting the children and youth of the Pal-Mac School District area.
