First Scot-toberfest and Beer Sampling Deemed Successful

Sunday, September 21st’s First James R. Hickey Post #120 “Scot-toberfest” and beer sampling was deemed successful by the many who attended and participated.  The local distributor for Labatt’s Products, provided three different beers/ale for taste testing by the participants.  The goal of the event was to gain insight into what product the Post’s membership wanted available to be served.  The membership was offered this opportunity to taste-test and then vote to determine what new offering would be made available.  The choices from Labatt’s were:  Blue Royale, Apple Ale and Bourbon Barrel Ale.

When the final results were tabulated, Apple Ale was tied for first place with the Bourbon Barrel Ale.  To deal with the tie vote, one will be ordered in bottles and the other as a draft offering.

The participants in the sampling were also treated to  “brats and kraut”.  The first tasting of brats were beer brats cooked in a German Octoberfest beer and then grilled outdoors.  These were well received even though many had never associated kraut with brats.  The second offering were brats cooked in an American Boch beer from Texas before grilling.  This offering received the higher scores.

Thank you to the local Labatt’s Distributor and to all the participants who took time from their Sunday afternoon schedule to sample and vote.  Special thanks to Sandy for her handling of the sampling chores, Mark for his support and, of course, Pete who, complete with kilt, gave it the genuine Scottish atmosphere.
